Dancers learn choreography that may be quick and then slow and involve jumping and floor work all in one breath! A strong center is imperative in jazz dance and so exercises are done to maintain and develop core strength in order to accomplish the quick movements. Today, “jazz dance” is sort of an umbrella term that can imply a mix of hip hop, lyrical, & modern, as a student advances. Ballet technique is always present in an advanced jazz routine. It is strongly recommended that all jazz students take ballet classes to help them progress quicker and balance their dance training.
